An operating system, abbreviated OS is a software product type which is part of a system, computer equipment or device, and dealing with management and coordination of its activities. The computer system may be a computer, a workstation (workstation), a server, PC, a notebook, a netbook, a smartphone, a device for road navigation, e-book reader or a different system “intelligence” own. The operating system plays the role of host applications running on the equipment (hardware), respectively.
IOS designates the operating system from Apple Inc. American company. for the following computers and devices, “smart”
iPhone – a smartphone market success of mobile phones
iPod Touch – a MP3 player
iPad – a tablet PC
Apple TV – a device type box Settop
IOS is a Unix-like operating system, still in its first version contained many elements of Mac OS X, also a Unix-like operating system from Apple.
The current version (May 2011) is IOS 4.3. Offers new functionality such as an Internet access point (hotspot) staff.
IOS functionality can be complemented by the user by purchasing additional applications specialist online shop called apps in Apple’s App Store. In May 2011 stood at about 350,000 apps available there, some of which are even free. Examples of free apps: watershed “water”, small domestic animals who let someone pet moving, etc.., Virtual beer glass. At the other extreme is the application I’m rich (“I am rich”) which can only display a diamond rotating screen, but instead costs about 800 euros. Certainly, however, that most applications provide real utility.
For reasons of product policy, IOS does not support Flash multimedia software company Adobe American.
The IOS functionality is one of the success factors of mobile iPhone primordial world market.
IOS is a competitor’s operating system Android from Google or Symbian, were Android operating systems is gaining on Apples IOS.
